s/o Michael Ivan & Sarah (Cole) Crouse. He served in the Civil War, enlisting at Doylestown, PA on August 9, 1862 as a private in Company C, 128th Reg. PA Vol. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Antietam by a minnie ball through the left shoulder joint, causing total disability of his left arm. He was discharged from military service at Harrisburg, May 4, 1863 by reason of the wounds received in action. After his convalesence, he was appointed Enrolling Officer and served to the end of war. He was also in the engagement at South Mountain. After the war, he was the telegraph operator at Riegelsville, and later for some years served as postmaster at Riegelsville. He married Mary Ann Kerbaugh on 13 Dec 1856 and they had 8 children.
