He was born April 21, 1921, in Hubbard to John Franklin Dukes and Mary Ellen McGary.
Mr. Dukes was a veteran of World War II in which he served as a medic with the Blue Devils while stationed in Italy.
After competing his duties, he returned to Malakoff and attended Henderson County Junior College.
He worked as a carpenter for over 30 years.
During his career, he was instrumental in the construction of Henderson County Junior College, Kilman Hospital, Navarro Hospital and numerous homes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby O. Starkes; brothers, J. Olin Dukes and Henry L. Dukes Sr.; sister, Annie L. Moser; and his parents.
Survivors include his son, John K. Dukes of Malakoff; daughter, DeLois Pagitt of Malakoff; grandchildren, Pamela D. Green of Tool and Gary D. Pagitt of Wisconsin; sisters, Jean Ewing of Payne Springs and Ella Mae Johnson of Oakhurst; and nine great-grandchildren.
