Henry Way was born in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, to Eli & Carra A. (Birve) Way on the 8th day of October, 1838. He was married to Jane A. Sherman on the 7th of November, 1858, in what is now Fremont County, Iowa.

Mr. Way was a veteran frontiersman. Born on the frontier, he has ever since kept in the vanguard of civilization, having been successively one of the pioneers of Missouri, Illinois and Iowa. In 1865 he was a member of the first band of white people to take up their residence in Otter Tail County, Minnesota and in 1905 enjoyed the proud distinction of being the oldest resident in Becker County, Minnesota. Almon W. Sherman, father of Henry's wife, Jane, was among the party of people to be the first white settlers in Ottertail and Becker counties of Minnesota.

Mr. Way settled in Detroit Township near Oak Lake, on the 28th of June, 1868, and in the summer of 1870 changed his residence to Section 20 of what is now Audubon Township. Here he secured 240 acres of what I consider the best land in Becker County, and has been on of the most successful farmers in his section of the country, and he was one of the first to demonstrate the fact that apples could be successfully raised in our latitude.

When Henry Way settled on his claim in Becker Co, MN it was a distant 100 miles to Alexandria, Minnesota to do all trading, supplies and milling. The trip usually made with ox and cart and also on foot.

Mr. Way later moved to the village of Osage, Minnesota, east of Audubon, and was one of the originators, and is now one of the proprietors of the flourishing mill at that place, a structure of which people of that village are justly proud.

After the death of his wife Jane, while living at Osage, Minnesota, Henry again moved back to Missouri to live with his daughter Nellie.
