Mrs. Rachel Hutchens Angel, 86, died Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Mrs. Angel's funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Summerfield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Surry County, Mrs. Angel was born on June 22, 1922 the daughter of the late Willie and Lillie Poindexter Hutchens. She was a long-time member of Summerfield First Baptist Church, and very active in the ministries there. An avid reader, Mrs. Angel served as the church librarian for a number of years. She was also involved in the WMU, the kitchen committee, and enjoyed visiting with church members unable to get out.
She was preceded by her husbands Mr. Glenn Calloway and Mr. Marvin Angel, and three sisters Fern Coe, Judy Sisk, and Creola Atkins.
Surviving are her daughter Betty R. Angel, son Bruce W. Calloway, both of Summerfield, sister Adilee Matherly of Stoneville, two grandchildren Eric Calloway and his wife Megan, and Elaine Thomas and her husband Jeff, and two great grandsons Eli Thomas and Cooper Thomas.
