Army Spc. Bryant was assigned to the 40th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany. He died of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident while on patrol in Wahida, Iraq. Ja'Mel attended Belleville West High School in Belleville, Illinois. He was quiet, unassuming and the kind of kid teachers enjoyed having in their class. In 2006, he decided to join the Army in order to make a better man of himself and in April he was sent to Iraq where he had been serving as a combat engineer. Ja'Mel loved music and had produced a rap song about the troubles he had growing up in order to help other kids. When he got out of the Army, he wanted to go to school for engineering or music. Ja'Mel loved children and often passed out candy to the kids in Iraq – he was always trying to mentor them.
