Former longtime Anchorage resident and land developer Mack Payne, 70, died Oct. 23 at the Regional Hospital in Ponca City, Okla.
A graveside service was held at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla.
Mr. Payne was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Sallisaw, Okla., to William Thomas and Bonnie Barnes Payne. He attended school in Sallisaw and Drumright. He attended college at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business in 1949.
Mr. Payne spent 20 years in Anchorage. He also lived in Bullhead City, Ariz., developing land projects. He served a four-year tour of duty during World War II in the Army Air Corps.
He was a member of Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City, Disabled Veterans of Anchorage, American Legion Huff-Minor Post 14 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1201. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death his parents, William and Bonnie; one brother; a son, Stephen; and a wife, Jacquelyn. He is survived by his wife, Ila of Ponca City; his sons, Timothy, Bruce and Brent of Oklahoma City; his daughters, Peggy Scott of Oklahoma City and Jeannie Harris of Anchorage; 13 grandchildren; and two nieces.
Arrangements were by Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City.
