Robert Samuel Parkhurst February 2, 1823 - June 27, 1911
The death angel called at the home of R. H. DeMott on North Ninth street, at 6:45 o'clock this morning and called Uncle Sammy Parkhurst to the life beyond, relieving him from months of suffering caused from cancer.
He was a man who though advanced in years, was young at heart, beloved and respected by all who knew him and though his death causes sorrow in many hearts, it comes as a relief from much suffering to call him to a well-earned reward in the life eternal.
R. S. Parkhurst was born in Johnson county, Indiana, in the year 1823, February 2, and grew to manhood in that county.
He was married to Miss Lucretia Henry in the year 1843. To this union eight children were born, four dying in infancy and four daughters, Mrs. Abigail Hudiburg, Mrs. Lizzy Utterback, Mrs. Matilda DeMott and Mrs. Caroline Smith all grew to womanhood and are living except Mrs. Caroline Smith.
He moved with his family in company with several older families to Montgomery county in September, 1869, where he has since resided, his homestead being just west of Walker Mound where he lived for several years, his later home being just north of this city.
His wife died June 4, 1905, since which time he has made his home with his son-in-law, R. H. DeMott, where he passed away June 27, 1911, being 88 years, 4 months and 25 days old. He united with the Baptist church in early life and always has been a good and faithful worker in his Lord's vineyard.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at the DeMott residence, Rev. C. H. Jones officiating and interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
