LORIS - Mertie Holloman Strickland, 79, of the Goretown community, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Loris Community Hospital after an illness. She was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Goldsboro, N.C., a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Holloman and Dora Eason Holloman. She was the widow of John Drawdy Strickland.
Mrs. Strickland was a homemaker and a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, J.D. Strickland Jr. of Poquoson, Va., and Larry Strickland of Conway; two daughters, Hazel Duncan of Danville, Va., and Shirley Rhodes of Loris; four brothers, Luby Holloman of Gloucester, Va., Leon Holloman, Fulton Holloman and George Holloman, all of North Carolina; three sisters, Virginia Miller, Peggy Ann Parish and Roberta Brown, all of Princeton, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Lloyd Jordan, the Rev. Ford Norris and the Rev. Griffin Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, c/o Larry Rhodes, 242 Liberty Church Road, Loris 29569.
