Benjamin Grigsby Garvin was the son of Thomas Garvin and Elizabeth Young.

He married Rachel Billingsley 10 January 1828 at his home in Cane Hill. They were married by the Rev. Jonathan Blair, Rachel's uncle. Their witnesses were James Billingsley and Samuel Billingsley.
