Death of Mr. Josiah Baucom.

Mr. Josiah Baucom of east Monroe township died suddenly at his home last Tuesday morning about 10:30 o'clock. He had eaten breakfast that morning as usual and he and Mrs. Baucom had walked out a short distance from the house to look after the chickens. Mrs. Baucom left her husband and returned to the house and in a short time Mr. Baucom was found lying on his face, dead. He had a stroke of paralysis in June, 1919 (sic), and one in May, 1917, and another stroke had rendered him speechless, but he was able to get about around his home. Mr. Baucom was a Confederate soldier, a member of Co. I, 48th Regiment and served three years in the Civil war, was in twelve regular battles, and played a man's part through it all. Mr. Baucom was married to Miss Emeline Price in 1865 and to this union seven sons and one daughter were born, H. M. Baucom, of Anson county; J. Cull, W. H., F. L., Lonnie, G. C., and Chas. C. Baucom, all of Monroe township; the daughter is Mrs. M. L. Stegall, of Anson county. Also there are 56 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. One grandson, Azer D. Baucom, is in overseas service in France. Mr. Baucom was a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist church, having been a member 34 years. The body was laid to rest at Union Grove church, of which he was a member, in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. funeral services were conducted by Elder Henry Taylor.
