SON of John Taylor and Mary (Richards) Jester.
Born in Milford, Kent County, Delaware on August 4,1836

Isaac's GREAT GRANDFATHER, Jacob Jester came to this country from Scotland with his 2 brothers, Isaac and Abraham. Each settled in a different county within Delaware. Jacob settled in Kent County.

His GRANDFATHER, also named Jacob Jester and son of Isaac, was born in Milford, Kent County, Delaware and lived his short life in Milford,De. He was a soldier in the WAR OF 1812 and married Lina Taylor, of Kent CO., Their children were as follows:

Isaac's father JOHN TAYLOR JESTER was the oldest son of Jacob and Lina (Taylor)Jester and was born in Milford Neck, Kent Co., De. on October 9 1802. He was 16 years old when his father died. He worked on farms in the area, educating himself,and at age 30 married. He was described as a man of unquestioned integrity, of correct principles and of active intellect. He was a supporter of Milford's public school system and elected several times to minor offices in Kent Co., De.

John Taylor Jester, Isaac's father died December 31 1879 at age 77 yrs and is buried on the family farm.

ISAAC RICHARDS JESTER only had 12 months of education but educated himself by reading often under the light of the moon or by a fire, and family records say he had GREAT proficiency in mathematical knowledge. At the age of 35 he began teaching at Kirby's schoolhouse and continued until June 17 1898. He was also proficient in Science and Literature.

At the age of 15 years of age, he began contributing to local newspapers, stories about the area of Milford, De. and continued until his death.

In his youth he learned carpentry under Charles Fleetwood, of Milford, De. When he began the trade of carpentry he was paid 5 dollars a month and it was the custom of workmen to go to the woods to cut their own wood. For many years he would teach 6 mths of the year and the remaining 6 mths of the year do carpentry. He owned a farm of 52 acres on which he lived.

On July 13 1863 he enlisted in Wilmington, De., in Company I, 7th Regiment, Delaware Infantry and served 35 days when he was mustered out.

On April 21 1867 he was married to Mrs. Eliza (Webb)Donovan(b9/6/1837)

They had the following children:

RUTH JANE JESTER AND EMILY ELLEN JESTER (TWINS)born January 25 1868 both died in childhood

GEORGE HENRY JESTER b July 18 1870 who became a school teacher

MARY E. b July 16 1873

Isaac's wife had a daughter Caroline Donovan by a previous marriage.

His wife Eliza died August 30 1873 from complications of childbirth, leaving 2 small children. Isaac remained unmarried after her death raising, and educating their children.
