Listed as an Assistant Rector at St. Andrew's in Philadelphia in 1854 and then at St. Paul's Church in Chester, Pennsylvania.He served as Rector of St. Paul's, Chester, from June, 1855 until ne resigned in September, 1859.

Civil War veteran: US Army Chaplain enlisted Dec 1, 1859. Commissioned an officer in the Regular Army Post Chaplains Infantry Regiment on 13 Dec 1859 with the rank of Major.
