Funeral services for Mrs. Tally Gardner, 64, native of Giles County, were held in Athens, Ala., at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, March 27, at the Church of Christ, with the burial taking place in the City Cemetery, Athens.

Mrs. Gardner died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Friday at the Athens Hospital. Born August 4, 1895, at Prospect in Giles County, she was the former Miss Freddie Griggs, the daughter of the late Dee Griggs and Lillian Downs Griggs.

Mrs. Gardner, who had lived in Athens many years, was a member of the Church of Christ.

Her first husband, Lonnie Allen Chapman, died September 25, 1918.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her husband, Tally Gardner; two sons, John M. Chapman, Dewitt, Ark., and Lerman Chapman, Athens, Ala.; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Poole, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two step-children; two brothers, Gilbert Griggs, Evansville, Ind., and Tommy Griggs, Detroit, Mich.; and six sisters.
