RITA ANN WASINGER, 54, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2008, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born on December 18, 1953 in Winfield, she was the daughter of Orville L. and Eleanor (Goodrich) Bair. She was raised on a farm near Burden and received her education in Burden graduating from Central High School in 1971. She went on to attend Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 1973.

On December 28, 1974, Rita was united in marriage to Darrell E. Wasinger in Burden. The couple made their first home on a farm near Burden, and later moved to Winfield in 1984. Rita began working for the Social Security Administration in late 1973, and retired in July of 2004 when the office was closed. She then began working for Social and Rehabilitation Services in January of 2005. She was subsequently diagnosed with liver cancer in February of 2006, and continued working for SRS until June of 2007.

She was a very active member of the Holy Name Catholic Church where she played piano and organ for 10 years. Rita enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing and especially loved playing the piano.

Her family includes: Her husband: Darrell Wasinger of the home; Her daughters: Leticia Hickman and husband Cody of Kansas City, MO; Gina Urban and husband Dustin of Philadelphia, PA; Sarah Robl and husband Peter of Owasso, OK; Susan Wasinger of Hays, KS; Her mother: Eleanor Bair of Burden, KS; Her brother: Roger Bair and wife Kim of Burden, KS; Her sisters: Linda Raftopoulos and husband Roulie of Wichita, KS; Melissa Fraley of Burden, KS; and Her 7 nieces and 2 nephews. In addition to her father Rita was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Rick Fraley, and her niece Kimberly Raftopoulos.

A Celebration of Christian Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. A Rosary will be said on Friday evening at 8:00 P.M. at Holy Name Catholic Church. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Rita's name for Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
