Obituary of Adella Dickinson's brother, printed in the Daily Sentinel, Rome. N.Y., Friday Evening, December 4, 1931 reads, "Descendant of First Settler Passes Away, Bernard's Bay, Dec. 4. - Mrs. Adella D. Crandall has received word of the death of her brother, Isaac P. Dickinson, in Waterbury, Conn. He was born here 93 years ago, was a Civil War veteran and had lived nearly 60 years in Connecticut. This leaves Mrs. Crandall the only survivor of her family, being one of ten children. Her last sister, Mrs. Mary D. Clapp, died three weeks previously in California. Mrs. Crandall is a great-granddaughter of John Bernhard, the first settler here, for whom this village was named."
