Charles Batterson was born April 5, 1871 on a farm at Wellman, Iowa and departed this life of June 18, 1948 at his home in Holton, Kansas at the age of 77 years. He was the third son of eight children of Nancy and David Batterson. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Gannon in Omaha, Nebraska on April 6, 1904. They went on a farm at Laurens, Iowa and farmed for 5 years. Then came to the state of Kansas in 1909 and farmed for 36 years, moving to Holton three years ago the account of failing health.
Mr. Batterson was always cheerful and had a kind word for all. In spite of his ill health, he never complained. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Surviving relatives are his wife, one brother, George Batterson, Texashoma, Oklahoma; and two sisters Mrs. Chas. Shoff of Mayetta, Ks. and Mrs. Fred Huddle of Holton, Ks.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church, June 22, at 9 o’clock. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery west of Holton.
