David H. Haviland, age 68, of West Haven, formerly of Milford, was called to Heaven on Monday, September 22, 2008. David was the son of the late Herbert H. Haviland and Katherine Galpin Haviland Judkins.
David, an unusually beautiful spirit, born on June 26, 1940 in Bridgeport was a lover of nature and animals. As a young man, David enjoyed being a model, who appeared in many fitness magazines. In his adult years, David worked as a paving contractor, owning his own business. Aside from that, he was a very talented artist and writer. In his spare time, he enjoyed drawing and sculpting. David was affectionately known as "Dave Nice" by his friends for his eagerness to always lend a hand, generosity and his caring, giving ways. His gentle kindness, funny punch lines and beautiful blue eyes will forever stay in our memories and hearts.
David was the beloved and cherished father of Tammy Edwards and her husband Richard of Trumbull, Trisha Haviland-Smith of Shelton, and Nicole Haviland of Stratford. He was the loving grandfather of Ashley and Richie Edwards of Trumbull, H. Clark Smith of Shelton, Raymond Rodriguez and Sianna Haviland of Stratford. He is also survived by one brother, Robert Haviland of Milford and his family. In addition, David leaves behind many cherished close and lifelong friends and his much loved cat "Austin".
David was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Haviland and Harrry B. Haviland; and his beautiful sister, Kathleen Haviland. At the request and wishes of the family, services will be 'private' for close friends and immediate family. A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 2:15 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford, is handling the arrangements.
