He was a retired Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive engineer. He retired about eight years ago.

Mr. Atkinson was a member of Diamond State Post, VFW, and the Calvary Assembly of God Church, Wilmington.

A native of Wilmington, Mr. Atkinson had lived about 28 years in Brookland Terrace, and more recently in Todd Estates, Newark.
