Gene is surrounded by family in this country cemetery, husband of Joni, brother of Wendell, grandson of Carson & Lucy Harmon and Leamon Niswonger, etc.

Gene was a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1970-1973 in Texas, California, and Okinawa.

He is the oldest son of Lindell D. (Barbara) Harmon and Christine (nee Niswonger) Burton. He is survived by his parents; his children: Travis Harmon and Shawna Davis; and eight grandchildren; two brothers: Paul (Leigh Lynn) Harmon & Randy Harmon; seven sisters: Linda Johnson, Dianna Harmon, Tammy (Kerry) Smith, Darlene (Gary) Kernan, Rhonda Thomas, Lisa (Rodney Schroth) Harmon, and Barbie (Rick) Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son: Chad Blubaugh; two brothers: Wendell David Harmon and Kevin Michael Harmon; a niece: B. G. Harmon; and a nephew: Zachary Wingard; and his grandparents: Carson & Lucy Harmon, Gladys & Marvin McIllwain, and Leamon & Laura Niswonger; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Dietrich Mothershead Funeral Home, DeSoto, Missouri, on Friday, September 19, 2008, followed by graveside services at High Point Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rodney Schroth, Randy Harmon, Rick Nicholson, J. Randy Harmon, Gary Lynn Harmon, Gary Fenwick, Allan Fenwick, and Steve Stone.

Gene was very fond of classic cars, particularly the 1956 Chevrolet. As a special tribute to Gene, his good friend Steve Stone drove Gene's 1956 Chevy 210 two door sedan behind the hearse to the cemetery. Gene and Steve had spent many hours together in the garage restoring and updating this car. Gene had done a similar gesture for his then future father-in-law, Robert Kercher, in 1982 when he drove Bob's Chevrolet Corvette behind the hearse at his funeral.

He was a very caring man who felt strongly about family and worked very hard to make himself a good man, he was always trying to improve himself. He believed a man's word was his bond and he always tried to keep his word. He enjoyed teasing and joking and was well known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed living in the country, traveling, old cars, and off road activities like dunebuggies and four wheelers. He was especially fond of 1956 Chevys. He taught himself about the computer and spent a good deal of time exploring and learning on the internet. His genealogy hobby took him to several states and allowed him to meet many people that became a big part of his life. Gene was a loyal friend, son, nephew, big brother, cousin, dad, and husband to those he loved. He is greatly missed. When we lost Gene, we lost our best friend. Our lives are richer and our hearts are fuller for having known this man.
