Jeryl Arthur Watson was born on October 11, 1912 to Joseph Robert, also known as Joe Bob, Watson and Beryl J. Watson. Joe Bob was an educator and school superintendent. Jeryl had five siblings in his family.

Jeryl grew up at Ryals, in McIntosh County, Oklahoma until he began college at Connors State Agricultural College in Warner, Oklahoma from 1929-1932 where he received his Associate's Degree. He was active in drama and the debate team at Connors.

Jeryl continued his education at East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1936.

After graduation, Jeryl taught school for five years at Graham School outside Weleetka, Oklahoma while living outside of Henryetta, Oklahoma.

In 1941 he married Velmina Cathelene Littlejohn in Dustin, Oklahoma where her father was the Methodist minister. From 1942-1945 Jeryl was in the U.S. Army where he rose from rank of private to sergeant. After his Army stint, Jeryl and Cathelene taught in Mason, Cromwell, Oakdale, and Okmulgee, Oklahoma Public Schools. Jeryl was an educator for 40 years.

In 1953, Jeryl received the Master of Science Degree at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater, Oklahoma. During Jeryl's last 20 years of teaching in the Okmulgee Public Schools he was awarded four National Science Foundation scholarships. Jeryl's professional organization memberships included Oklahoma Education Association at the local, county, and state level, and National Education Association. Jeryl retired from teaching in 1974. Jeryl was a Mason and member of the Okmulgee 199 Masonic Lodge. He also was a long time member of Okmulgee's First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there.

Jeryl Watson was survived by his wife Velma Cathelene Watson of the home, grand neices Elizabeth Dawn and Kristen Elaine Littlejohn, grand nephew James David Littlejohn, and other relatives from the Watson side of the family from Henryetta, Oklahoma as well as friends from his educator's years and church family.
