Elizabeth's parents were Lazarus (or Adolf) Funderburg and Phoebe Bigler, both from German descent. "Funderburg" is Anglicized from the German surname "von der Burg" of a long line of Dukes and Counts of the "Bergisch Land" of the Rhine. Walther and Peter von der Burg were the first to immigrate from Germany to avoid political prosecution, and arrived in America on the sailing vessel "Thistle" arriving in Philadelphia on September 19, 1738. They originally settled in Pennsylvania and later move to Maryland where they purchased land for farming. Walther, his wife and children are buried at their plantation in unmarked graves. The Maryland Historical Society has a chart which shows the true location of their graves. ~ taken from "Descendents of Jacob & Eve (Boone) Funderburg" by Alvin K. Funderburg (c) 1978.
