William Black was born in County Cavan, Ireland, March 15, 1839 and died at his home near Barrett, KS., March 5, 1926, aged 86 years, 11 months and 18 days.
He came to America when a lad of seventeen, spending some time in the state of New York, but later going to Illinois, where he lived for a number of years. At Oneida, Ill., on December 31, 1865 he was married to Mary McConchie and to the union were born three children, Geo H., Rena, and Chas. Robert. An adopted son, John, was also reared in the home.
The family came to Kansas in 1878, residing on a farm west of Frankfort until 1881, thwn they moved to the place near Barrett, where the remainder of his life was spent.
Mr Black was preceeded in death by the daughter, Rena and son Charles who were taken a number of years ago and by his faithful wife who scarcely eighteen months ago was called to the eternal home.
Besides the sons, Geo H of Frankfort, KS and John O of Weston, MO., he is survived by six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at the family home at 2:00 o'clock Monday, March 8th, conducted by Rev F B Benson, pastor of the Frankfort Frist Methodist church. the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Barrett cemetery.
