Funeral service for James Monroe Rutherford, 79, of Grassy Creek, who passed away Monday, January 20, at Ashe Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. today, January 23, at New River Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Jennings officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at Grassy Creek.

Mr. Rutherford was born in Ashe County, May 18, 1895 to John H. and Susan Parks Rutherford. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Rutherford is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Ruby Morris, Miss Betty Jo Rutherford, both of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Ethel Lee Crawford of Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Geraldine Bisson of Allen Parks, Mich.; two sons, Lewis Rutherford of Cuyahoga Falls, Md., Clifford Rutherford of Hilldale, Mich.; two brothers, Hiram Rutherford of Jarrettsville, Md., Charlie Rutherford of Marshalltown, Iowa.
