"Jacob Bailey"
"Died – July 15, 1880, Jacob Bailey, aged 84 years, 2 months and 14 days. The subject of this notice was born in Berks county, Penn., on the 30th day of April, 1786, was baptized in his infancy, by Rev. Leenan and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church when about 16 years old, of which church he remained a faithful member until his death, a period of 68 years.  He was united in marriage with Miss Rupright, in the year 1816, in which union twelve children were born, seven of whom are still living.  In the year 1823 he immigrated to Mahoning (then Trumbull) county, Ohio, where he manfully and successfully contended with the many difficulties of a pioneer life, and where, in the providence of God, he was called to mourn the death of his beloved companion, who, having shared his labors, joys and sorrows for a period of 35 years, departed in peace in the year 1851. In the year 1853 he was the second time united in the holy bonds of matrimony, with Mrs. Catharine Dustman, which union continued until his death, a period of 27 years. In as much as the most of his children had selected, as their homes, Huntington and Wells counties, in Indiana, he also moved to this State in 1866, and purchased a farm near Markle, this county, which proved to be his last earthly home. Unto him were born 12 children, 68 grandchildren and 98 great-grandchildren.  He was buried near Markle, on the 17th inst.  His remains were accompanied to their last resting place by a very large concourse of people, to whom the undersigned endeavored to speak words of comfort, based upon Phil. 1, 21.  Thus ended in peace a long and useful life. O. S. Gilesby"
