Civil War Veteran John St. John was born Jean Baptiste St-Jean on September 2, 1842. His parents were Jean Baptiste St-Jean dit Coitou of Contrecoeur, Quebec and Isabelle LeBeau of Monroe County, Michigan. His step father was Joseph Lecuyer dit Nicholas. He married Sarah Prudhomme on August 25, 1861 at St. Mary's Church in Toledo, Ohio. In 1864 he enlisted in the Union Army, using his Americanized name John St. John, and served in Company D, 182nd O.V.I. He and Sarah had nine children: John, Elizabeth, Joseph, Mary, Peter, Sarah, Josephine, Frank and Alex. He died on October 9, 1925 in Monroe County, MI. He is buried next to his third wife.
