Ardmore, OK — DeArman "Pat" Fields Ratliff, of Lone Grove, was born July 15, 1922, in Crosscut, Texas, to the late Marshall Fields and Mattie Bell Minica Ratliff. He died Sunday morning, Sept. 21, 2008 in the Ardmore hospital at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 6 days.


Pat had lived in Lone Grove the past 27 years, moving there from Wilson. He had lived in Wilson for two years, moving there from Jal, N.M.


Pat was a graduate of Crosscut High School in Crosscut, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army for 89 days, before being injured and receiving a medical discharge. He had retired from the El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.


Pat was proud of his ability to tear a quarter in half with his bare hands. He was also proud of his friendship with actor Robert Duvall and all the other actors and writers that he crossed paths with through the years. He was even able to consult Robert for his role in "Lonesome Dove." Robert even found a speaking spot for him at the beginning of his film "The Apostle".


Pat married the former Gloria Martinez Ortiz on March 5, 1983, in Ardmore.


He is survived by his wife Gloria, of the home; sons Doug Ratliff and wife Brenda, of Loco Hills, N.M., and David Ratliff and wife Jo Ellen, of Sweetwater, La.; daughters Linda Bowman and husband Steve and Marsha Webster and husband Wayne, all of Jal, N.M.; adopted grandsons Brady Ratliff, of Gainesville, Texas, and Dustin H. Ratliff, of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters.


Pat was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.


Family visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. in the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, 2118 South Commerce, Ardmore.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, in the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Brother Wayne Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Lone Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Brady M. Ratliff, Dustin H. Ratliff, David Glen Ratliff, David Ratliff and Jonathan Webster. Honorary casket bearers are Wilford Brimley, Alan Geffrion, Dale Lay, Jack Carter, Carl Thurlow, and Steve Taylor.
