San Francisco Call, Volume 69, Number 103, 13 March 1891, pg 8, col 6: STANTON A. MASON. Captain Stanton A. Mason of the Fourth Cavalry died at Vancouver Island [**], Wash., on Monday and his remains will be shipped to this city to be interred in the National Cemetery at the Presidio. Captain Mason was born in New York on September 11, 1852, and from that State was appointed to the Military Academy in 1871, and graduated in 1875. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Fourth Cavalry, promoted in April, 1879 and Captain in 1886.

** There is a Vancouver, Washington, but Vancouver Island is in British Columbia, Canada. Bill was able to confirm that Capt. Mason died while stationed at Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, Washington. He cites the cause of death as Bright's disease. Thus, the word "Island" was just an error in the original newspaper item.
