A funeral for Alfred A. "Red" Plowman, 64, of Vacaville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dixon Community Church, 955 East A St., Dixon. Burial will follow in Silveyville Cemetery, Dixon.
Red passed away Jan. 18, 2006, from a sudden illness while on vacation in Parker, Ariz.
Born March 10, 1941, in Tucson, Ariz., he has been a resident of Vacaville since 1977.
He supported and coached his kids in numerous sports when they were young. He owned and founded in 1976, Plowman and Sons Excavating in Vacaville. He belonged to the Dixon Moose Lodge, California Dump Truck Owner's Association, Operating Engineers Local 3 and was a retired engineer with the Dixon volunteer fire department.
Red has managed to touch countless people's lives. He had a gift for telling jokes. When Red entered the room, everyone's face lit up. He was the life of the party.
Red leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Betty of Vacaville; sons, Scott Plowman of Phoenix, Christopher and wife, Debbie Plowman of Dixon, Tim and wife, Maria Plowman of Vacaville and John Shepherd of Oregon; sisters, Patricia Willis and Wanda Keeton, both of Yuba City; mother and father-in-law, Dale and Gwen McConnell of Vacaville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Keith Pruett of Vacaville; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Cody, Ashley, Brittany, Meghan, Tyler, Zachary, Alexandria, Kyle, Timothy and Mandi; niece, LaRita McKinney; nephew, Ray Davison; longtime friend, James Lilly of Vacaville; numerous extended family; and a host of dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alta Plowman; and a grandson, Luke Plowman.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville.
