Oscar Lewis Balzen, 83, of Hamilton died Tuesday, May 25, at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home following a short illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 27 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Sullenger and Dr. George Tolbert officiting. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Balzen was born Aug. 4, 1909, in Quihi, Medina County, Texas to Fritz and Anna Christina Akardt Balzen. He married Mary Lee Pierce Jan. 28, 1930, at Quihi. He was a rock mason and a member of the Park Heights Church of Christ.
Preceding Mr. Balzen in death were his parents; one grandson, Glen Dale Kincheloe (1956-1974); two brothers, Roland Gotlopp Balzen (1906-1909) and Harry H. Balzen (1904-1963); two half brothers, Russell Fritz Balzen (1938-1939) and Leroy Balzen (1932-1976).
Survivors include his wife of Hamilton; three sons, Eddie Balzen of Gatesville, Archie Balzen of Plano, Kenneth Balzen of Hamilton; five daughters, Ruby Young of Emory, Mary Kincheloe of Odessa, Christina Fischer of Childress, Peggy Morgeson of Holland and Lilly Hudson of Hamilton; two half sisters, Nora Annie Barfield of Heidenheimer and Jane Esary of San Antonio; three half brothers, Chester Balzen of Hondo, Steril Balzen of Henderson, Nev., and Ervin Balzen of Hondo; 21 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Pallbearers were grandsons Darly Kincheloe, Terry Balzen, Archie Roland Balzen ll, Kevin Hudson, Kenneth Wayne Balzen and James Hickman.
