The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 13, 1949

The funeral service of Mrs. Lovell Thayer was conducted Friday afternoon, January 14, 1949, at 2 o'clock, at Ruskin Community church (sic) by Rev. E.V. Dunbar, pastor, assisted by the Rev. E.B. Stewart, Methodist pastor at Nelson and Nora. A brief service of Scripture and Prayer was held at 1:30 at the home.

Music was furnished by a Women's double duet: Mrs. Clarence Krogh, Mrs. Ernest Nelson, Mrs. Evan Sykes and Mrs. Eli Skinner, with Mrs. C.O. Hull playing the accompaniment. They sang Saved by Grace and God Be With You 'Till We Meet Again. Jesse Hamel of Nora sang God's Tomorrow.

The pallbearers were: George Thayer, Clarence Krogh, Glenn Henby, Earl Lewis, C.O. Hull and Will Rogge. Mrs. Thayer was laid to rest in the Ruskin cemetery, where her parents and other relatives had been laid to rest.

Alma Gertrude Jones, daughter of John R. and Orpah Lynn Jones, was born April 15, 1879, at Living Springs, Iowa, and passed away at her home near Nora, Nebraska, January 11th, at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 26 days.

When a small child she moved with her parents to a farm near Ruskin, where she grew to womanhood in the Ruskin community where she taught school a number of years.

She was united in marriage to Lovell Orean Thayer November 25, 1903, at Nelson, Nebr. Six children were born to this union: Lois Snyder of Grant, Marvin of Nora, Genevieve Kohl of Hardy, Dorthy Carman (sic) and Loren of Superior, and Fern Troudt of Nelson.

Mrs. Thayer was a devoted wife and mother, no service being too great for her family. She was a charter member of Presbyterian church (sic), now the Community church (sic) of Ruskin, and her devotion to her faith in God sustained her through the years.

She was preceded in death by her mother when a small child and her father in her girlhood; her two brothers, Lewis and Ernest, in recent years; also her step-mother, Mrs. Etta Jones, and Ina Said, a half sister. Besides her faithful husband and children, she leaves to mourn her passing 15 grandchildren, sisters Mrs. Ollie Wright of Ruskin, Mrs. Effie Graver of Modesta, California; Mrs. Amy Newhouse of Nelson; and half-brothers Riley Jones, Loveland, Colorado; Archie and Elmer Jones of Nora, Orvis Jones of Ruskin; half-sister Vivian Reade of Bird City, Kansas; and step-sister Lillie Adrian of Goodland, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

This poem was read along with the obituary.

Mother's busy hands are still
Her tasks on earth are done,
No more the toil and worldly care,
Her heavenly goal is won.
She loved her home and family, too,
Her friends and church were dear
Althou' she's gone to her heavenly home
We feel her presence near.
We'll miss her but it's nice to know
That she dwells among the blest,
In that realm of light in yonder sky
In the land of eternal rest.
