Frank Clay Ives, 74, of 3200 Western Avenue, Mattoon, Illinois, died at the Methodist Memorial Hospital in Mattoon, Illinois, 5:30 p. m., Tuesday, July 29, 1947 after a heart attack suffered a few hours previously. He had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Arthur Hughes, for the past year, since the passing of his wife. He was born Wednesday, September 24, 1873 to Lucius H. and Elizabeth E. "Libbie" (nee Cowan) Ives in Mason, Michigan.

In 1912 he was a resident of Muskegon, Michigan.

He married Angeline M. Gurley on Wednesday, May 26, 1915 at Mount Clemens, Macomb, Michigan, USA.

In 1915, living in Chillicothe, Missouri, he purchased The Dearborn Democrat, a newspaper in Dearborn, Missouri, from Mrs. James Wilson for the sum of $5100 and became the editor and publisher. On August 11, 1919, he and his wife sold the newspaper to L.C. Gabbert for the price of $4600.

Frank was engaged in public welfare work in Toledo, Ohio and other midwestern states for a number of years. In 1931, he was the superintendent of the community welfare house, providing meals and lodging for the Toledo men out of work. In 1936, he was a resident of Lansing, Michigan

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Spanish American War Veterans Association in (1904 became the United Spanish War Veterans).

He was survived by two sisters, Mrs. Winifred "Winnie" (Chester Arthur) Hughes of Mattoon, Illinois and Mrs. Zada ? A.T. Haines of Prairie, Michigan.

The body was taken to the Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon, Illinois and then sent to the Jewett Funeral Home, 605 South Jefferson Street, Mason, Michigan, where funeral services were held. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, Michigan.
