He joined the U.S. Army at age 16 (lied about his age) after running away from home.

He served five years with the U.S. Army Infantry during the Indian Wars. He was with the expedition that went into the Black Hills to crush the Indian fources under Sitting Bull. His unit were the ones that buried Custer's men after their "Last Stand".

He later married Cornella R. Ernest in 1880 and they had four children together. He entered the insurance business and worked in his home office.

They resided at 812 Jefferson Street in Wilmington, De.

Funeral services for George W. Kreer, 84, of 812 Jefferson Street, will be held at the William E. Haines Funeral Home, Twenty-fourth and Market Streets, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow night. Mr. Kreer died yesterday morning at his home.

He was a member of the Seventh Cavalry, U. S. Army when the regiment fought the Indians under Sitting Bull in the Black Hills of the Dakota territory. As a member of this expedition, Mr. Kreer helped in the burial of Custer's men. During his service in the army he learned the Sioux language, and became acquainted with Sitting Bull, the Indian chief.

After five years' service in the army, Mr. Kreer entered the insurance business in this city and represented several insurance companies. He was one of the leaders of the Single Taxer during their campaign to elect a ticket in Delaware in 1896.

Mr. Kreer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cornelia R. Ernest Kreer; four children, Mrs. Homer J. Davis, Mrs. Mary Whitlock, Theodore M., and George W. Kreer, Jr.; 20 grandchildren and 2- great-grandchildren, all of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Decorsey, Hartsville, Pa.

Married in Elkton, Md., in 1880, Mr. and Mrs. Kreer celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary last March.
