W. G. Pickering Succumbs To Infirmities Of Old Age, And Goes To His Reward
_______

W. G. Pickering died at his home near Carmel this morning at 5:30 o'clock of troubles incident to old age, having arrived at the ripe age of 89 years old and five months. The funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 11 a. m. Wednesday by Rev. J. L. Teague, followed by interment in the family burying ground near his home. He leaves two sons and one daughter, R. G., G. H., and Miss Callie Pickering, and one brother, R. H. Pickering, of this city, who is the sole survivor of a family of twelve brothers and sisters.

Mr. Pickering had been twice married. His first wife and mother of his children, was Miss Nancy Connell. The last wife was Miss Lee Rogers. He was born and reared near the place where he died and his life had been an open book, being a most excellent Christian character, having become a member of the Methodist church when quite young, and until deafness by a defect in hearing a few years ago, always took an active interest in all departments of church work.

He was a regular attendant at the services at Carmel and his home was not only open to the preacher, but to all of his friends, as he took great pleasure in dispersing hospitality, and in performing deeds of charity. Until prevented by the infirmities of age he took an active interest in business, especially his farm.

For several years he was a dealer in tobacco, which he rehandled in his home factory and sold in the Clarksville market. For several years Mr. Pickering had been in feeble condition and his death was not unexpected to his family and friends, who fully realize that their loss is his gain.
