OBITUARY:

C. F. Burton passed away at the home of his son, Oscar, in Garland, Sunday afternoon about 2:25. Mr. Burton had suffered with a cancer on his face for a number of years and had taken treatments at two different places and been under the care of several doctors, but was unable to get the cancer removed. The past several years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Kunchoff, who with her husband, gave him excellent care, took him to doctors and to Kansas City for radium treatments and did everything possible to relieve his intense suffering. About two months ago he came to his son Oscar's home, and was no worse than usual until the middle of last week when he had a spell with his heart. Since then his other sons, Hugh M. and wife of near LaDue and Elsworth and wife, as well as Mrs. Kunchoff and husband had been at his bedside most of the time. An older daughter, Mrs. C. R. Smith, of Montrose, and a niece, Mrs. C. Querry, of Huntingdale, with their husbands, were there Saturday evening. Another son, Riley, of St. Louis, and a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Martin, Collinsville, Oklahoma, also came for the funeral. Columbus Fairfax Burton was born in Stiles, Iowa, March 8, 1862. he came to Missouri when he was 19 and lived here one year, then returned to Iowa to marry Miss Lina Lister. He and his bride came to Missouri soon after their marriage and settled near Petersburg. Eight children were given their union, two of whom preceded their father in death. Mrs. Burton died April 1, 1903, and two years later Mr. Burton and Ida Salsbury were married, they had one child, and Mrs. Burton died in 1912. Throughout his life Mr. Burton was believer in God, the Bible as His word, and Christ. During a revival conducted recently by Revs. Humphrey and Gray he confessed his faith in Christ to them in his home. He helped build the Salem church both by giving of his finances and donating work, and always took his family to church and Sunday school. Besides his children, Mr. Burton is survived by 21 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and the following brothers: John Burton, Bloomfield, Ia., W. A. Burton, Tulsa, Okla., D. L. Burton, Parsons, Kans., and Grant Burton, Mayview, Mo.; also three half-brothers, Frank, Jess, and Morgan Paris of Lexington.
