Douglas clayton Bess was the son of Charles Thomas and Audra Alma Holmes Bess. He was married to Opal Gean Hill and had three children, Douglas Elbert, Tammy Lynne, Kevin Duane Bess. They divorced and he married Brenda Joyce McCormick, they had two sons Brent Gregory and Allen Clayton.He passed away from lung cancer. Opal Hill Bess Sherrill Schuler.
When Doug & I married in 1958 we found out that our grandparents Alpha Angeline Montgomery Holmes and my grnadfather Leroy Montgomery were distant cousins. Grandma Alpha's father Andrew Benjamin "Ben" Montgomery born Mar.26,1877 and died May 30, 1917, was the son of James T Montgomery born Nov. 1850 & Died Mar. 15, 1915. James T was the son of James Montgomery born 1786 in Amhearst Virginia and passed away in Wayne County Mo.1868 and Elda Bennett Sulllivan 1816-1896.
My Grandfather Leroy Montgomery 1901-1981, was the son of Marion Lafayette Montgomery 1851-1935 & Lucy Valearia Jane Leach 1862 – 1950 and he was the son of
Robert Emmett Montgomery 1823-1865 and Matilda C Sullivan 1824 – 1897. Robert Emmett was the son of James Montgomery and his first wife Alcey Smith 1790 – 1845.
When Alcey Died James married Elda Bennett Sullivan 1816 – 1896. Doug was from James and his second wife and I'm from James and his first wife. We use to laugh and say that we were to much alike to get along.
