Rev. Curtis Campbell Klinger

Rev. Curtis Campbell Klinger, age 85 years, of Holland Twp., N.J., died Friday, April 10, 1998, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born September 17, 1912 in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of the late Oliver and Lillian Adelund Klinger.

Rev. Klinger was a 1934 graduate of Columbia University School of Business and for a time was employed by the Oildom Publishing Co. where he founded FUEL OIL NEWS. He entered and graduated from the New York Theological Seminary in 1944. He was then minister of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Irvington for over 35 years (1944-1979) and was pastor Emeritus of the church. Redeemer Lutheran Church was the result of a merger between St. Johns' Lutheran Church of Newark, N.J., St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Irvington and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Newark, N.J. Under his ministry, the church grew from 60 to over 800 members.

Surviving Rev. Klinger are his wife of 52 years, Mary Harman-Ashley Klinger; 2 sons, Curtis Klinger, Jr., of Mendham, N.J., and John Oliver Klinger of Stroudsburg; a brother, John C. Klinger of Dowelltown, Tenn; and 5 grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers, Harlan and Oliver C. Klinger, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 1998, in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Prospect and 41st Streets, Irvington, N.J. Family graveside services were held in Klinger's Church Cemetery, Klingerstown, Pa., on Wednesday, April 15, 1998.

The family requests that memorials in his name be made to the Memorial Fund of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Irvington, N.J., which he founded.
