William J. Beare, 86, of Flora, died April 24, 2005, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

He was born May 19, 1918, in Iola, IL, the son of William H. and Bertha J. Johnson Beare. he married Eileen M. Anderson Jan. 4, 1942.

He was a retired school administrator for Flora School District for 35 years, a member of Flora American Legion Post #14, State Teachers Retirement Assoc., and the local Clay County Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Joanne Hienz; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Roger S. Beare.

Funeral services were held at a later date, Neal Funeral Home in charge.

ACTIVITY DURING WWII
ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE IN THE MEDICAL CORPS AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 18, 1943 AT FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF OCCUPATIONAL COUNSELOR 262. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 3610TH SERVICE COMMAND UNIT, HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, AT THE PERCY JONES ARMY HOSPITAL'S CONVALESCES FACILITY, FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 4TH GRADE ON OCTOBER 1, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION POINT AT THAT STATION.
