James Henry CONLIN was the son of Virginia Ann "Jennie" PERRY and James CONLIN of Ireland.

His father was an Irish-born soldier named James CONLIN who served in some capacity in the Civil War. There is an old family story about someone who was a "little drummer boy", and this may have been James Henry's father.

We believe his father re-enlisted in 1868 in Fredericksburg, VA, two years after his April 1866 marriage to Jennie Perry. She was a Spotsylvania Co. girl whose parents moved the family to Fredericksburg, VA.

James Henry was born in what was then called the Washington Territory, now Washington state. His older brother Thomas Conlin, was born in VA in 1867, and his older sister Lucy Anna Conlin was born in AZ in 1872. James Henry's father died "when he was a lad", according to family lore, and his mother remarried to Francis L. PANCOAST. They eventually had four children together who became James Henry's half-siblings.

James joined the Salvation Army as a young single man and had earned the rank of Major by 1930. On 27 Sept 1900 he was married to Mary Ellen BENNETT, who was also an officer in the Salvation Army.

Their known children:

1) Ira Bennett Conlin b. 9 July 1901 d. 24 May 1906.

2) Samuel Harold Conlin b. 24 Aug 1907 d. 31 Dec 1974.
M: Verna Ruth Gray on 5 April 1930. b. 23 June 1910 d. 17 March 1998.

On 12 Sept 1918 James signed his WW I draft registration card. At that time he was living in Detroit, MI.
