Served as a drummer during the Civil War.
After the war he worked as a carriage refinisher.
His first marriage ended when his wife died during childbirth.
He and his second wife, Ellen "Ella" Cunningham, had six children though only two lived to adulthood.

CUNNINGHAM--Entered into rest, on August 27, 1919, Noah C. Cunningham, aged 73 years.
Relatives and employees of the Speakman Supply Co., are invited to attend the funeral from his late residence, No. 100 West Twenty-third street on Saturday, August 30, at 1:30 o'clock. Services a Brandywine M. E. Church at 2:30 o'clock. Interment at Riverview Cemetery.
