Mordecai Barnes, one of the city's oldest and most highly esteemed men, passed away at his home, 333 Chestnut street, yesterday afternoon. He had not been seriously ill but a few days. He was 82 years of age and came to this city from Wilmington, Del., in 1905, but had been a resident when a young man, having been born here. He leaves two daughters, Estella, at home, and Mrs. James D. Stroud, of Wilmington. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are: Edward H. Barnes, of this city; Jesse M. Barnes, of Massachusetts; Mrs. J. S. Meginnis, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Hannah Little, of Norwood, Delaware county. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Episcopal Church, both affiliations being in Wilmington.
