Husband of Anna Mary Butler Baker.

Father of Mrs. Raymond P. Bowers, William H. Baker, George W. Baker, Jr., Mrs. Laura Mayer, and Mrs. Reba Timmons.

George and his brother Eli enlisted with the 1st Delaware Battery of Light Artillery under Captain Benjamin Nields.

George fought in the Battles of Gettysburg, Bull Run and Antietam. His brother Eli was killed during the Battle of Gettysburg.

George was mustered out of service at Devall's Bluff, Arizona on June 23, 1865 when he returned to Wilmington, De.

George marched with the General Phil Sheridan, Post Grand Army of the Republic, and eventually led the procession as honorary marshal.

George was the last Union Soldier surviving in Wilmington, De. upon his passing.

BAKER--In this city, on October 18, 1940, George W. Baker, Sr., in his 100th year. Relatives, friends, members of the G. A. R., Sons of Veterans and the Auxiliary of the Grand Army, are invited to attend the funeral services at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond P. Bowers, 1217 Claymont Street, on Monday afternoon, October 21, at 2:30 O'CLOCK. Interment at Riverview Cemetery.
