Julia Mae Botts Bland, "Boogie", lifetime resident of Blue Springs, Missouri and past Fall Fun Fest Queen passed away on September 13, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family and loving caregiver, Carol Oliver. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 18, 2008 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Springs Christian Church or to the Blue Springs Historical Society.

Julia was born on April 27, 1919 in Blue Springs, Missouri to Thomas E. "Mose" and Lelah (Shrout) Botts. She graduated from Blue Springs High School and went on to attend Business School for two years. Over the years, she worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant, was a secretary for Safeway, and retired from the R-4 School District in 1984 after serving many years as secretary to the Superintendent and School Board. Julia was a charter member of the Retired Educators Association, Blue Springs Historical Society and the Blue Springs Pilot Club, where she was a past president. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #499 Auxiliary and Blue Springs Christian Church. Julia loved to decorate and spend time in the garden. She was united in marriage later in life to Lloyd Lester Bland, who preceded her in death in 2005. Included in this union were his children, David & Joan Bland of Independence, Missouri and Dorothy & Dean Falconer of Independence, Missouri and grandson, Dana Falconer of Colorado.
She is also survived by her nieces: Dr. Pam Botts of Lawrence, KS
Elaine McKarnin of Blue Springs, MO
Carol Ann & Bill Buss of Urbana, IL
Nephews: Ron & Dixie Herrington of Blue Springs, MO
Larry & Janice Selvey of Oak Grove, MO
Many great-nieces and nephews
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Justine Selvey and Pauline Herrington, and brother, Lloyd Botts.
