Jesse was an engineer at Diamond State Iron Mills. He was a member of the Asbury ME Church.

He served for 3 years and 9 months as a Private in Purnell's Legion, Maryland Infantry, Co.'s A & E, Union Army during the Civil War. During the war he was wounded twice. First during the Battle of Antietam on Sep. 17, 1862 & second during the Battle of Cold Harbor, VA. on Jun. 3, 1864.

Jesse was a member of the DuPont Post No. 2 Grand Army of the Repbulic.

He was a man of affable temperament and ideals, highly regarded by all who knew him.
