Mrs. McCarty was born on Tuesday, 24 June 1902, to Samuel Herford Brown and Sarah Frances Speake Brown, in Parker County, Texas. She was ninth of sixteen children born to this union.
She was united in marriage to Charles Virgil McCarty on Saturday, 11 September 1920, in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas. Mr. McCarty survives Bessie. They were married 57 years. To their union were born seven children: son Joseph Herschel McCarty, son Charles Leroy McCarty, daughter Louise McCarty, son James Virgil McCarty, daughter Vera Vernell McCarty, son Bennie V McCarty, and daughter Mary Ann McCarty.
Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son Joseph Herschel McCarty.
She is survived by her husband, step-daughter Mae Bell McCarty Walsmith, son Charles Leroy McCarty, daughter Louise McCarty, son James Virgil McCarty, daughter Vera Vernell McCarty, son Bennie V McCarty, daughter Mary Ann McCarty, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Interment occurred at Duncan Valley Cemetery of Duncan, Greenlee County, Arizona.
