Joseph Claude Anderson was born March 2, 1888 in Caney, Montgomery County, Kansas to Robert Marion and Emma Josephine (Wright) Anderson.

Claude was married to Mary Julia Sears and had six children, Agnes, Floyd, Mildred, Earnie, Raymond, and Mary. Mary Julia (Sear) Anderson died in 1955 and Claude later married Verna May Farmer Britton. They had no children. Claude and Verna were both killed in an automobile accident in Cleveland, Pawnee County, Oklahoma in 1970.

Joseph Claude Anderson died, at the age of 82, on October 19, 1970, in Cleveland, Pawnee County, Oklahoma. Joint funeral services were held October 22 in the Ochelata School Gymnasium, officiated by Rev. Edward Luelf, Fire Baptized Holiness Church of Ochelata, for Claude and Verna Anderson. Under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, interment for Joseph Claude Anderson was in the Dewey Cemetery, Dewey, Washington County, Oklahoma. He was laid to rest next to his first wife, Mary Julia (Sears) Anderson.
