Thomas served as a seargeant with the 4th Delaware Infantry, Company A during the Civil War.

He was a 33-year-old laborer from Manchester, England, when he enlisted with Capt. Williams at Christiana, DE on Aug. 7, 1862.

He was promoted to Sgt. on Sept. 19, 1863.

He was sent to Tilton U.S. Army General Hospital on November 24, 1863, with an inguinial hernia and transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps on July 30, 1864.

Thomas Turner, formerly a park guard, was buried from his late home on Race street, this afternoon. He was a member of the Union Veteran Legion and Smyth Post, G. A. R. These organizations attended the funeral in a body. The pall bearers, six in number, were composed of two park guards, two from Smyth Post, and the same number from the Union Veteran Legion. Mr. Turner was a survivor of the Fourth Delaware Regiment. Interment was made in Riverview Cemetery.

Thomas does not have a grave marker.
