NELL SYLVIA SPENCER FORMERLY OF VALPARAISO AND UNION MILLS
Nell Sylvia Spencer formerly of Valparaiso and Union Mills, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH. She was born December 26, 1917, in Valparaiso to Daniel and Mary (Bentley) Schellinger. Nell graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1936. She married Francis H. "Bud" Spencer on April 25, 1942. He preceded her in death August 6, 2006. She worked as a secretary in Chicago and for Jack Burt Insurance in Valparaiso. She later worked for over 20 years at McGill Manufacturing. Nell loved growing violets and making homemade vegetable beef soup, bread and cookies for family and friends. She was a long time member of First Christian Church in Valparaiso. Nell is survived by one daughter, Norma (Jim) Tomlinson of Ohio; three sons: Duane (Dorothy) of Minnesota, Daniel of Pennsylvania and William (Debbie) of New York; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Martha Reich of Valparaiso. Visitation will be Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe Street, Valparaiso, IN from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Victoria Ubben officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at First Christian Church, 1507 Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
