Heart Attack Is Fatal To Liberty Man, 'Pete' Hanrahan Is Found Dead In Barn On His Farm

Leroy (Pete) Hanrahan, 44, prominent young Liberty Township farmer and sportsman, was found dead by hired hands in a barn on the farm of Col. Robert Murray, which he managed, at 6:30 a.m. today.

Death was attributed to a heart attack, from which he had been suffering recently. He was last seen entering the barn, by hired hands, 15 minutes prior to the time he was found dead.

According to close family friends, Hanrahan had spent the greater part of Tuesday fox hunting, and had then attended a basketball game in the evening with a friend, Jack Morthland. He had not complained of any illness when they departed after the game, according to reports secured today.

Interests in Agriculture

To his many friends throughout Porter County, "Pete" was known as an avid hunter and sportsman. He was also interested in farm extension activities at Purdue University. He was a member of the Liberty Center church.

The decedent was the son of Roy and Mabel (Sanders) Hanrahan, pioneer Porter County residents, who survive him. He is also survived by his wife, Helen, whom he married Nov. 27, 1935, and two children, Sharon Kay, 15, and Donald Lee, 6.

Surviving also are: two brothers, Earl and Carroll; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Sanders, Mrs. Maxine Pfledderer, and Mrs. Margaret Hannon, all residents of Porter County.
