Eric Hudson

Longtime Oak Creek resident Eric Hudson was called home July 29, 2007, at Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Craig. He was 91.
Eric was born July 2, 1916, in Yorkshire, England, to J.H. "Harry" and Alice (Twibey) Hudson. He and his family, including his younger brother Hayden, came to the U.S. in 1920, going to Littleton for a brief period.
They settled in Oak Creek, where Eric attended and graduated from Oak Creek High School in the early 1930s.
Music was always a large part of Eric's life, so he followed his heart to a singing career that led him to New York City and California. He had the opportunity to host his own radio show for a number of years. Upon his return to Colorado, he sang at the Senate Lounge with the Olinger Quartet.
He married his sweetheart, Lila Lee Gibboney, in April 1946, and they were blessed with two daughters, Nancy Lee and Debra Lee, who were both named in honor of their mother. He was blessed with two sons-in-law, Glen Bronnenberg and Glenn Paxton.
Eric was employed as quality control supervisor with Beatrice Foods for many years. In 1972, Eric returned home again and is probably best known for being a Routt County Sheriff's Office deputy and an Oak Creek police officer.
Eric's precious wife, Lila, passed away in 1982, and he married LaVerna "Bonnie" Britton thereafter.
Family meant everything to Eric. Beside his daughters and sons-in-law, Eric leaves five grandchildren, Lori Wilson, Traci Foster, Sean, Shad and Bobby Paxton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Nichole, Amanda, Carl, Lauren, Meghan, Emily, Connor, Luke, Tyler, Nicholas and Colton, who idolized "their Grandpa."
Eric loved the outdoors, travel, woodworking and people.
Eric was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the El Jebel Shriners for more than 60 years.
Funeral services were held Aug. 2, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Yampa with John Brothers officiating. Amanda Wilson sang "How Great Thou Art" for "Grandpa" with Gene Sanders accompanying on the keyboard.
Concluding services and interment were Aug. 3, 2007, at the Arvada Cemetery in Arvada with Memorial Lodge No. 1 AF and AM officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice or Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehab Center in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, CO 81625.
