Infuriated when his music teacher (Kelseyville high school, rural Lake County, CA) told him he couldn't carry a tune and would never be a singer, he left school and ran away to San Francisco, where he survived the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, lived in Honolulu during WWI and sang featured roles with the Honolulu Opera Company. 2 sons, Terence and James Cady.
